Food Bank Drive
What do inflation, housing bubbles, unemployment rates, and recessions have in common? These are all concerns that Lockheed Martin Atlantic City and English Creek New Jersey employees and subcontractors pushed to the back of their minds to help others. The Lockheed Martin Leadership Association Chapter 541 - Atlantic City Area Food/Personal Hygiene Product Collection raised 13,373 pounds of food and personal hygiene products. For four weeks items were collected for the Community Food Bank of New Jersey – Southern Branch. The Community Food Bank of New Jersey is a non-profit organization that fights hunger and poverty by distributing food and groceries, providing education and training, and developing new programs to help people with low incomes meet their basic needs. This year’s total was 5341 pounds or 66% more than the events previous record. The LMLA would like to thank each department’s food drive lead, those who helped box up and load the truck, and everyone who donated for all their generosity and support of such a worthwhile cause.
Food Drive Competition
It’s back! We are once again holding our food/personal hygiene product collection in support of the Community Food Bank of New Jersey – Southern Branch. Let’s see if there will be a team that can beat last year’s team that had the highest percentage donation – the ATOP team! They are very competitive and don’t like to lose, so if we can step up our game, I’m sure they will again rise to the challenge.
There’s no vacation from hunger. That’s the message the Community Food Bank of New Jersey is working to get out and where the Lockheed Martin Leadership Association – Atlantic City chapter would like your support! We would again like to support the Food Bank by holding a food/personal hygiene product drive. Due to the economy and the rise in unemployment, there is an increasing family need for support. Let’s show how much we care by supporting them during a time of great need.
There are a total of 12 teams, some are departments and some are orgs, such as TBFM. Both Lockheed Martin and subcontractors will have the opportunity to participate. I will be sending out notes to each of the teams to let you know your team members and ask for a lead, if I don’t already have one. It will be first-come, first-serve to take the lead role. If I do not get a volunteer, I will ask the manager for assistance, but we know we can count on you to help others by volunteering. If you are at a site and happen to be around during 9/5 – 10/3, let me know and I will include you on a team. It really won’t take much time at all! First weigh in will be 12PM on 9/12.
The GOAL:
The goal is for each team to bring in food, which will be weighed weekly. The total pounds will be divided by the number of people on the team. This will give us an average weight, which will make the competition fair. The Goal is to bring in as many items/as much weight as possible. Last year
you blew us away by bringing in almost 4 tons of food!
The RULES:
Once a team leader has been identified, they will be responsible to collect the food in their cubicle/office and bring the food to a designated location (316/R201 – Greg Stellitano’s Office) by 12:00 PM each Monday of the week, with the first weigh in on 9/12. We would like to use the same scale for all food weigh-ins; therefore, we will coordinate with English Creek and B324 to have the food brought over. After weights have been taken/averaged, we will store all food so teams will begin the week with an empty box again. Each week, we will chart the team’s progress on a chart and post on designated bulletin boards in B316, B324 and English Creek. ***BONUS ITEMS NOTED BELOW.***
