"What Were They Thinking?: Unconventional Wisdom About Management" by Jeffrey Pfeffer. The author is a professor of Organizational Behavior at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. He writes a monthly column on management issues entitled "The Human Factor" for widely-circulated Time-Warner business magazine. One review of this book stated that it was a compilation of "short chapters filled with examples, data, and insights that challenge questionable assumptions and much conventional management wisdom. Each chapter also provides guidelines about how to think more deeply and intelligently about critical management issues. Topics covered range from managing people, leadership, and also measurement and strategy."
