Engineering Week 2008
National Engineering Week at Atlantic City High School
Volunteers from TSS Atlantic City spent Friday, Feb 22, 2008 at the Atlantic City High School in support of National Engineering Week. This was the third year of participation in this event and each year it gets better. This year the group provided information to students on the many engineering disciplines they could follow (as shown through a video), and conducted an interactive forum for those students who had questions on how they could proceed into their college years with an eye towards an excellent career. After the presentation, the students were challenged to complete a group engineering task and discuss the engineering hurdles they had to overcome to complete the task on time while meeting goals. The task involved designing, building, and testing a propeller-driven, rubber banFebruary 15, 201055 teams was evidenced not only by the fun they had but by the satisfaction they received through this engineering experience. Be sure to check out the March LM1 Video on passport to view one of the student engineering team’s races.
Thanks are extended to the Lockheed Martin volunteer team led by Mike Tosh, consisting of John Stauffer, Pete Collins, Terry Geck, Beau Songprasit, and Diane Fowler.

Congratulations “Stelli’s Stooges”
The Tech Center Chapter of LMLA held its Fourth Annual Charity Softball Game on Thursday, June 5th. This year, the proceeds of the event will go to the American Diabetes Association.
The sky was overcast, but the atmosphere was anything but. There were games for the kids, plenty of great food, lots of raffle prizes, and of course, softball. The first game involved two employee teams: “Cus’s Kids”, coached by Bob Cusack and “The Bad Rapsters” coached by John Rapp. It took only five innings for the Rapsters to score the 11 runs needed for victory and the chance to play the managers’ team in game two.
The managers team, “Stelli’s Stooges” coached by Greg Stellitano, jumped out to an early lead, but the Rapsters fought back. The Rapsters were trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the 7th, with men on second and third with two outs, the potential winning run came to the plate. But the Rapsters couldn’t capitalize and the game ended with the managers winning for the second straight year.
There were many people who worked hard pulling the event together: Kelley Abele, Jack Giacolone, John Rapp, Heather Tomasello, Sherri Manka, Judy Cusack, Kelly Hershey, Pete Collins, John Bates, Diane Fowler, Dennis Forrester, Jim Jones, Sandy Carnes, Mike Steiner, Faith Moore, Nichole Cavileer, and Mike & Kelly Tosh. Also all the players and coaches who volunteered their time to make the event possible.
LMLA estimates that around $3,500 was raised to help fight diabetes.
Golf for Charity
One of our most successful and fun events this year was our second annual Golf Tournament for Charity held on October 2nd. Over 40 golfers and volunteers participated in the event, which raised over $1,200 to benefit the Brad Hennefer Golf for Life Foundation. In cooperation with the National Downs Syndrome Congress (NDSC) and the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA). The Golf for Life Foundation promotes public awareness and education about those living with Downs Syndrome, and provides opportunities for these individuals to participate in various athletic activities. These activities include regional and national golf clinics, instructional programs with the PGA, and promoting the interests and participation of people with Downs Syndrome in all aspects of community life.
We were very fortunate this year to have both Brad and Bob Hennefer (namesake and President of the foundation, respectively) with us to play in the tournament, and we are looking forward to work-ing with them at next year's event.

Make A Difference Day
October 25, 2008 was Make A Difference Day—and we certainly did that at the Community Food Bank of South Jersey! A team of Lockheed Martin employees from the Tech Center along with family and friends was given the task of unloading and sorting over 1000 lbs of food generously donated by the Lockheed Martin employees from English Creek. We then were tasked with stacking food items into bins for future distribution to those in need. Lastly, working side by side with other volunteers in an assembly line environment, we packed and sealed holiday food boxes for pick-up by charity organiza-tions to distribute to those in need. Approximately 5,000 holiday food boxes with all the staples needed (including the turkey) are assembled, packed and distributed for a Thanksgiving Dinner for four.
The team consisted of Mike Williamson; Terry Geck and daughter Amy; Christine Beringer and son Justin; Graham Worrall with friend Rachel and his mother, Andrea; Mary Simpson; John Kayes and daughter Lauren; Tony Lopez and friends Eileen and Meredith; Julie Riek; Judd Sloan with wife Erika and son Wayne; Marie Brown and daughters Olivia and Claire; and Diane Fowler. The 'over the top' food foundation provided by English Creek employees was organized by Dan Bacanskas, with a special match-ing challenge from Dave Clemons. Without the donation of food and time, the Community Food Bank would not be able to meet the never-ending needs of the community which are greater then ever at this time. Our generosity and selflessness was greatly appreciated by the Community Food Bank Direc-tor Evelyn Benton and staff.

Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program and Holiday Party
This year, we are providing toys and clothing to 126 children to make their Christmas a time to remember. Our group of volunteers will also be sup-porting the Holiday Party at the Salvation Army for these same children and their families on Thursday, December 16, 2008, where our own Santa will distribute the gifts so generously donated by our Lock-heed Martin team and subcontractor groups.
